Blüm Amp Modification
Looking to get better tone from your amp?
As the old adage goes "The less, the better" is applied to any alteration at Blum Amps, especially if requested to modify a vintage amp. Any mod needs to easily be undone in order to return the amp back to its original design. We absolutely refuse to butcher or mutilate vintage amps. That means NO drilling, extra hole punching or other forms of dismemberment of a vintage amp.
Fewer and fewer of these relics survive due to natural disasters, accidents and hot-rodding misadventures resulting in cannibalization. They really should be preserved.
Mass producers of amps are cranking out disposable shitboxes daily with the cheapest, lowest common denominator components they can use, including converting to SMD components, while expecting the consumer to just buy another amp instead of having it repaired.
It's easier and cheaper to slap these things together by machine, but the machine can't repair them. It costs more than they are worth to have them repaired by humans. Additionally, some disposables are currently masquerading as "boutique amps" with boutique prices. Do not be fooled by these! Unfortunately, for legal reasons, we're unable to mention any name brands to warn you.
Simply replacing a speaker makes more of a dramatic change in tone than replacing the tubes. Minor tweaks here and there in a circuit can add up, resulting in an improved tone one is seeking. Combine that with a change of speaker and tubes and get a radical change in tone.
